Gary Phillip Smith, 76, of Vero Beach, passed away on Jan. 29, 2014.
He is survived by his son, Ellis Smith (Teri); daughters, Jenny Yingling (Donnie), and Melissa Becker (Jeff); grandsons, Adam and Chad Yingling, Christian Fuentes and Alex and Eric Becker; granddaughters, Ashley Young, Sarah Smith and Kelsey Yingling; great-grandson Hunter Margiatta; brother James Smith (Sandy); and sister, Anita Eveskcige.
Smith was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Barbara “Queenie” Smith; brother, Donald E. Smith; and sister, Patricia Hardin.
Smith was born in Vero Beach and lived here his whole life. He was a graduate of Vero Beach High School, Class of 1955 and attended the University of Florida in Gainesville. He owned and operated G&B Tomatoes in Vero Beach since 1976 and he retired in 2004. Prior to owning his company, Smith worked for Matthew’s TV in Vero Beach. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Vero Beach.
Smith was a devoted volunteer for the Shining Light Garden Foundation, Inc., Habitat for Humanity and was a longtime supporter of Shiloh Youth Ranch in Sebastian.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 8, at the First Baptist Church in Vero Beach with Rev. Michael Carter officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Strunk Funeral Home and Crematory of Vero Beach. An online guest book is available at www.strunkfuneralhome.com.
