VERO BEACH — One of the most creative, respected and influential photographers in our community, Aric Attas is having a show of new works, “Seeking the Light” opening Friday, Feb. 7 at the Gallery at Lighthouse Art and Framing.
Attas, who teaches at the Vero Beach Museum of Art, invites the viewer to bathe in the shifting reflections of the refracted light. Rather than strive for just another image, his scholarly approach challenges one to be open to new possibilities. These abstract images evoke strong feelings more than specific memories or literal visions.
Attas received his Bachelor of Science in Psychology with high honors from Hobart College in 1988. After college, Aric developed his craft while working with international advertising agencies and world-renowned graphic designers. His interest in light and space lead him to specialize in architecture, food and product photography.
He later received his Master of Fine Art from the Hartford Art School, and went on to pursue fine art photography and teaching, where his true passions lie. After Hartford he taught photography at the University of Connecticut, Tunxis Community College, the Hartford Art School, and Trinity College.
Aric then relocated to Vero Beach, and is a pillar of the Vero Beach art community. In addition to his teaching at the Vero Beach Museum of Art, he is director of photography for “Vero Home, Life and Design” magazine, and intellectual blogger, promoting creativity in all forms.
These newest works explore theories of time and space. They are ambiguous, stunning color studies that echo the vastness of the universe, and evoke wonder. Subtle forms are visible, yet not tangible enough to identify. The softness and mystery of his pieces portray an air of romanticism and undeniable ethereal beauty.
This show will be on view throughout the month of February.
