Al Katner, 78, of Vero Beach, passed away on Jan. 24, 2014.
Katner is survived by his daughters, Sherry Zellner, Linda Ferrara (Jim) and Sue Woods (Tim); companion, Gloria Willer; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Katner was predeceased by his wife, Barbara Marie Kantner, in 2009.
Katner was born in Peekskill, N.Y., to Charles O. and Anna Mohr Kantner. He moved to Vero Beach several years ago. He was a self-employed auto mechanic and will be remembered for his love of restoring antique cars and for his love for dogs. He rescued many dogs and adopted them from the Humane Society. He was a member of Dogs for Life off-Leash Dog Park in Vero Beach.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 1, at Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home, 1950 20th St. Vero Beach, FL 32960.
The family suggests that memorials be made to the Humane Society. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox Gifford Funeral Home.
