VERO BEACH — Among the four consent agenda items unanimously approved without discussion at the Vero Beach City Council meeting on Tuesday was the request by Ranger Construction Industries to adjust its contract to include upgraded lights on Runway 4/22 and Taxiway A/E at the Vero Beach Municipal Airport.
The company was awarded the contract by City Council in October 2013 to rehabilitate the runway and taxiway with the assistance of grant money from both the Federal Aviation Administration and the Florida Department of Transportation.
After launching the project, Ranger Construction discovered the need to upgrade the existing lighting system to new LED lights.
In total, the company is seeking $100,475.86 extra. FDOT has agreed to cover 80 percent of the cost, leaving the airport to increase its budget for the project by $20,095.
The monthly capital project status report provided by the City of Vero Beach Municipal Airport regarding the runway and taxiway project was also approved as a separate item on the consent agenda.
Lastly, the Council also approved a request from Waddell & Williams Insurance Group to renew a five-year lease scheduled to expire on Jan. 2014. The commercial property is located at the Vero Beach City Marina.
