UPDATE: Driver id’d in fatal crash on SR 60 in Indian River County

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A female driver died this morning in a crash involving her Ford Explorer and a Mack dump truck, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Barbara Korpas, 57, of Marco Island, was driving a 2005 Ford Explorer, north on 82nd Avenue when she entered the intersection of State Road 60, according to FHP.

James Rippey, 65, of Okeechobee, was driving a 1993 Mack dump truck, east on SR 60. Rippey entered the intersection with 82nd Avenue in an attempt to make a left turn.

Korpas failed to yield and that’s when Rippey struck the driver’s side, according to FHP. Korpas’ vehicle came to rest facing north on the concrete median of the intersection. Rippey’s truck overturned onto its side in the left lane of SR 60 eastbound.

Korpas was pronounced dead at the scene, according to FHP.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
