INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Thousands lined the streets of Indian River County throwing candy, waving, and enjoying another nice sunny day in remembrance of the ideas and life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
“(Martin Luther King Jr.) did some great things,” said 95-year-old Alexander Wilson.
Schools, political groups, and civic organizations were represented in the MLK Parade that went from US 1 north to Old Dixie, 4th Street, then North on 43rd Avenue to Gifford Park.
Local law enforcement and Fire Rescue were also represented.
A common theme was that MLK helped break the chains of oppression felt during a time where minorities were marginalized.
“All is not finished,” said Wilson.
