Museum of Art to host Convening Culture 2014

VERO BEACH — Citizens for Florida Arts, Inc., the citizen support organization for Florida’s Division of Cultural Affairs, proudly presents Convening Culture 2014: Connecting the Arts with Environmental Conservation on Jan. 28 and 29 in the inspiring setting of the Vero Beach Museum of Art.

This statewide, cultural conference will provide opportunities for meaningful, professional development for Florida artists and individuals involved in Florida’s cultural organizations.

Convening Culture 2014 will also offer specific opportunities for participants to learn about the potential long term collaborations and crossover between arts programming and environmental conservation.

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about these two areas from nationally recognized leaders in addition to having the opportunity to network and learn from one another.

Guest presenters include keynote speaker Dr. Edith “Edie” Widder, world famous biologist and deep sea explorer.

She will be joined over the course of the conference by Dr. Peter Pritchard, world renowned expert on sea turtles and Sibille Pritchard, former chair of the Florida Arts Council; panel discussion on Conservation and the Arts with participants from the Norton Museum of Art, River Kidz, Straz Center for Performing Arts, The Elliot Museum, and the Florida Oceanographic Society; Shelia Smith, Executive Director, Minnesota Citizens for the Arts; and a conversation with James Prosek, artist, writer, and naturalist whose environmental themed work will be exhibited at the museum in 2015.

The conference fee of $70 per person includes attendance at the Tuesday evening Opening Reception and Talk from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Laura and Bill Buck Atrium at the Museum. Conference attendance includes lunch and the full day of all conference sessions on Jan. 29.
