Nominations needed for Woman of the Year

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY – The Junior League of Indian River is currently accepting nominations for the 2014 Woman of the Year.

Presented by Stewart Evans Stewart & Emmons, the 2nd annual event will highlight the tremendous contributions women make to the community every day. The Woman of the Year luncheon will be held on Wednesday, April 30.

A Woman of the Year nominee is a woman who demonstrates high ethical standards personally, is a recognized role model, has a strong sense of community responsibility, and is outstanding in her contributions within Indian River County.

A woman can be nominated in one of four categories: Business/Professional, Civic/Non-Profit Professional, Volunteer, and Rising Star.

The deadline for submissions is Feb. 10.

“Like last year, judging of the nominations will be done by judges outside Indian River County, to ensure impartial evaluation of the nominees,” said Erin Grall, Chairperson for Woman of the Year.

Nomination forms, sponsorship opportunities and additional event information can be found on the Junior League’s website at http://www.jlir.org/Woman-of-the-Year.html. Please contact Erin Grall at 772–569-0000 or [email protected] with any questions.

Funds raised from this event, honoring the award recipient(s), will support Junior League programs, including its current initiative – Whole Child Indian River.

Whole Child Indian River allows families to get connected to service providers through an online assessment of their needs. Parents can view detailed program descriptions, fees, and eligibility requirements so that they can make informed decisions about which providers are best for their family. The program is free, accessible 24 hours a day and confidential.

Last year, 26 women were nominated and honored at the Luncheon. Category winners were: Meredith Van Veen – Business/Professional, Cynthia Falardeau – Civic/Non-Profit Professional, Marta Schneider – Volunteer, and Karly Krasnow – Rising Star.

Cynthia Falardeau was named the overall 2013 Woman of the Year.

“The 2013 Woman of the Year event was a tremendous success,” said Erin Grall. “Our nominees were the best of the best, and we know that there are more women in our community that deserve recognition for all of their hard work.”

Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. The organization reaches out to women of all races, religions and national origins who demonstrate an interest in and commitment to voluntarism.
