Vero Beach motorcyclist hits 87 mph in a 35 zone in Sebastian

SEBASTIAN — A Vero Beach motorcyclist faces charges after he allegedly drove recklessly as he tried to flee authorities on US 1 in Sebastian, according to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office.

Lance Evans, 29, was observed by authorities going 87 mph in a 35 mph zone on a Harley Davidson motorcycle.

During an attempted traffic stop, a deputy activated his emergency lights and siren in an attempt to stop Evans but he failed to do so. Evans had a valid Indiana drivers license but did not have a motorcycle endorsement to operate a motorcycle in either Indiana or Florida.

Evans said he was leaving Earl’s Hideaway in Sebastian after consuming one alcoholic beverage when he was driving south on US 1 and could not hear the sirens.

Evans faces charges of no drivers license for operation of a motorcycle, aggravated flee and elude a law enforcement officer that has activated lights and siren at high speed, and willful wanton reckless driving.
