Ronald E. Mitchell, 81, Vero Beach

Ronald E. Mitchell, 81, died at Grace Rehabilitation Center on Jan. 8, 2014.

Mitchell was a longtime Vero resident.

He was a well-known land developer and builder in Vero Beach and Ann Arbor, Mich.

He was a United States Army Veteran and recipient of the Purple Heart having served in the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Erika; son Thomas (Mary), of Brighton, Mich.; daughter Rhonda Couchman (Joseph), of Whitmore Lake, Mich; stepdaughters Robin Griffin (Todd), of Clermont, and Kathy Kalani (Karl), of Pittsburgh, Penn; his brother Jerry Mitchell, of Jupiter; four grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Joyce Wayco and twins Thomasine Swick and Josephine Hines.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908.

A visitation was held Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Strunk Funeral Home, Vero Beach.

A prayer service was held at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at the funeral home.

Interment will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Mich., at a later date.
