SEBASTIAN — Merbert “Bub” Milon was named City of Sebastian’s 2013 Employee of the Year, and received a special plaque from Mayor Bob McPartlan at the Jan. 8 City Council meeting. Hired as a Maintenance Worker 1 in 2004, Milon has worked his way through the ranks to his current position as Supervisor of the Public Works Department – Stormwater Division.
Milon is a Qualified Stormwater Management Inspector and has completed several National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Program courses as well as independent study courses through the Emergency Management Institute and FEMA.
“Bub takes his job very seriously and takes great pride in his work,” McPartlan said of Milon. “He has great customer skills and is always cooperative and positive. He’ll perform any task requested of him, handling drainage complaints – which we all know are not a pleasant experience; quarter-round clean-up – which is not always a clean experience. He’s the City’s vacuum truck operator – which is usually a 2-man operation; and he has the ability to operate most of the City’s equipment.”
“Recently,” McPartlan added, “he provided important assistance to management with setting performance benchmarks as a result of a personnel issue.
“Bub is an integral part of our daily operations. His exemplary professionalism and commitment is truly an inspiration.”
Shaking McPartlan’s hand, Milon called the success of his department a “team effort” and said he and the stormwater team are always working to improve and to find ways to “make Sebastian an even better place to live.”
