Cat’s urination leads to county man’s arrest after fight with wife

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — An Indian River County man has been arrested for imprisoning his wife as he was intoxicated and angry that her cat urinated on his belongings, according to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office.

John Wallace, 47, was arrested at their home yesterday around 7 p.m. in the 1400 Block of 90th Avenue, according to authorities.

When deputies arrived on scene they saw Wallace standing in back of his wife’s car with the reverse lights on, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Wallace was reported to be extremely intoxicated. This is not the first time that authorities have visited the residence.

Prior to authorities arriving on scene, a cat, which the victim got during a recent separation, urinated on some of Wallace’s personal items and “angered the defendant,” according to authorities. Wallace was verbally aggressive and confronted the victim, who was sleeping in another room, about the cat.

Wallace had told the victim he was going to kill the cat, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The victim, in turn, told Wallace she was going to take their dog to a Humane Society to be put down because he is always telling her he is going to kill the cat.

When the victim got in her vehicle with their dog, Wallace got behind the vehicle and refused to let her leave, according to authorities. The victim asked him to move and Wallace refused and threatened to throw a brick through the rear windshield.

Wallace faces a charge of false imprisonment.
