VERO BEACH — The discussion around a pay for parking program at city beach parks located along Ocean Drive was halted after City Manager Jim O’Connor said the city would not pursue it any longer.
In November, the Vero Beach Recreation Commission proposed a trial plan to install kiosks at Jaycee Beach and South Beach that would collect $1 per car per hour between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Though much discussion has surrounded the profit potential for the struggling recreation commission, the City Council has deemed paid parking is not in the best interest of Vero Beach residents.
City Council has made the opportunity available to the Recreation Commission and/or any individual concerned with the project to present again in March, according City Clerk Tammy Vock. However for now, it has been confirmed that the city will discontinue pursuit of the project.
