The Frog Leg Festival…How it all began
In 1990, several members of the City of Fellsmere were very concerned about the fact that there was no funding source available for the recreational needs of the children in Fellsmere.
The Frog Leg Festival was a result of that concern and the brain child Fran Adams. She and local residents guessed frog leg dinners might be unique to entice folks to the city.
Not realizing the draw of this event, some committee members helped set up the event and then went to the movies.
Several Hours and 400 dinners later the frog legs were sold out! Growing pains were there!
After all these years, the Festival can take pride in the fact that several hundreds of thousands of dollars have been donated to the City’s recreational needs since its inception.
The Festival Committee is comprised of dedicated volunteers who meet all year long to make it possible.
The Festival Committee is planning to serve nearly 7,000 dinners and estimate more than 80,000 people will attend the 4-day event.
The purpose of the Festival is to continue to raise funds for the children’s recreational needs in Fellsmere with proceeds also donated to volunteer organizations who work the Festival.
