SEBASTIAN — The Sebastian City Council unanimously approved a franchise agreement with Florida City Gas to construct natural gas lines within corporate boundaries. The City Council has set a public hearing regarding the matter for Feb. 12.
Interim City Manager Joe Griffin said the franchise would be an “economic boon” for the City of Sebastian.
“This is something we’ve been hoping for and looking for, for a very long time,” Griffin said.
“I think this is something we should proceed with,” he added, prompting the Council to approve the agreement and send it to public hearing.
According to Griffin, businesses along the County Road 512 corridor, US 1 and more will benefit from the Florida City Gas contract.
The City of Sebastian, according to the agreement, will receive 6 percent of the company’s gross operating revenue
Florida City Gas anticipates six to nine months for construction, according to official documents.
