Vero Beach man arrested for racing and DUI

VERO BEACH — A Vero Beach man has been arrested for racing and driving under the influence on A1A in Vero Beach, according to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 2 a.m. Friday, Dec. 13, a Jaguar was estimated by a deputy going 80 mph in a 45 mph speed zone on A1A, according to authorities. The deputy could hear the vehicle accelerating event faster as he sped up to catch up to the vehicle.

Robert McCarron Jr., 26, and his passenger were in the vehicle, according to the Sheriff’s Office. “I’m sorry. I was just showing my cousin how fast my Jaguar could go,” said McCarron.

The deputy said he could immediately smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from McCarron’s breath. McCarron’s speech was slurred and his eyes were glassy, according to authorities.

When the deputy asked how he was doing McCarron responded, “I’m doing good. I was just showing my cousin, my sister’s getting married, he came down to see her. I was just being an idiot.”

McCarron was headed from the Holiday Inn where his family was staying because of his sister’s wedding, according to the Sheriff’s Office. He also said he was staying at his house, located in the Moorings.

McCarron faces charges of racing on the highway and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
