Florida Department of Education releases graduation rates for 2012-2013

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The School District of Indian River County has received notification of graduation rates for the 2012-2013 school year. The District rate for Indian River County is 80.1% in comparison with the State rate of 75.6%.

“Federal regulations require each state to calculate a four-year adjusted cohort graduation rate, which includes GEDs, both regular and adult, and special diplomas.

The US Department of Education (USED) adopted this calculation method in an effort to develop uniform, accurate, and comparable graduation rates across all states.

The USED required states to begin calculating the new graduation rate in 2010-2011. This graduation rate is currently used in Florida’s school accountability system in the high school grades calculation,” as noted in the Education Information & Accountability Services Data Report.

High school graduation rates for Indian River County are:

Federal Graduation Rate

Sebastian River High School: 85.35

Vero Beach High School: 76.80

Indian River Charter High School: 94.12

District Total Graduation Rate: 80.12

“Now, we will drill down to target those areas in need of improvement. The District is looking for ways to improve and enhance all students’ performance, starting with elementary school students, with the goal that all students will receive a high school diploma and be prepared for college or a career,” Superintendent Adams said after reviewing the graduation rates.
