Camille Yates to attend International Conference on Fundraising

VERO BEACH — The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Indian River has announced that Camille S. Yates has been named a Chamberlain Scholar by the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy and will be attending the 2014 International Conference on Fundraising in San Antonio, TX.

AFP is the largest association of fundraisers in the world and represents nearly 30,000 fundraising practitioners across the globe. The AFP Foundation for Philanthropy supports programs and initiatives that help train fundraisers and increase knowledge and awareness of ethical fundraising.

Yates is the Development Director at the Environmental Learning Center (ELC) in Vero Beach. In her role, she helps raise funds to further the ELC’s mission of enlightening people about the area’s natural resources and teaching them to be good stewards of the environment.

Yates has been involved in fund development for the past 15 years and worked previously as the curator of the Manatee Observation and Education Center in Fort Pierce. She has a Master of Science in Ecology from the Florida Institute of Technology.

AFP Indian River will also provide additional funds to support Yates’ travel and housing expenses at the conference.

AFP’s International Conference on Fundraising attracts more than 3,000 individuals and features more than 150 educational sessions on every aspect of philanthropy.

The 2014 Conference will take place in San Antonio on March 23-25, 2014. Keynote speakers include Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple Computer, Inc. and Chief Scientist, Fusion-IO.

The Chamberlain Scholarship Program honors Ralph Chamberlain, CFRE, a long time fundraiser and supporter of AFP. Mr. Chamberlain helped to form one of the organization’s first chapters, the Greater New York Chapter, and served as both chair of the association and the foundation.

Because of his long time support of the Foundation for Philanthropy, the AFP Board of Directors renamed the Conference Scholar Program in 2000 to honor Mr. Chamberlain’s memory and commitment to the fundraising profession.
