VERO BEACH — Grand Harbor Community Outreach has just awarded a $6,000 grant to Indian River Habitat for Humanity for building materials to help “jump start” this year’s fundraising campaign for Habitat.
During the past decade, Grand Harbor residents have provided volunteer labor to construct 17 Habitat homes in Indian River County and have also funded the materials for 11 such homes, according to Doug Sweeny, VP/Co-Chair Philanthropy, Grand Harbor Community Outreach Program, Inc.
In addition, Grand Harbor volunteers work at the Habitat ReStore.
“The Grand Harbor community is one which loves to give to those in our county who just need a hand up, not a hand out. Whether it’s through their “time and talent,” by volunteering on the Habitat jobsite, in the Home Center ReStore, their “treasure” via donations from their annual appeal, or grants from the Grand Harbor Community Outreach Program, they demonstrate a true spirit of selfless giving.
Such generosity of “time, talent, and treasure” is a blessing which truly makes a difference in the lives of families in need of simple, decent, and affordable homes here in Indian River County,” said Andy Bowler, IRHFH President/CEO.
Community Outreach (CO) is an all volunteer, member driven, nonprofit organization that addresses the unmet needs of groups and individuals in our county through about 30 local service agencies.
The areas of support include Life’s Essentials (food, clothing, & shelter;) health and family stability; education, child and senior care; and enrichment services.
CO distributed over $280,000 last year, and more than $2 million over the last decade. It has been a major supporter and partner of Grand Harbor Habitat for all 10 years.
