John W. Massey Jr., 90, Wabasso

John W. Massey Jr., 90, died Nov. 18, 2013 at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center in Ft. Pierce.

Massey was born in Dayton, Ohio, and lived in Wabasso for 85 years, coming from his birthplace.

He was a graduate of Vero Beach High School Class of 1940 and attended the University of Florida, Gainesville.

Massey was a United States Navy veteran, serving during World War II.

He was a member of Grace Methodist Church, Wabasso.

Massey was a member of the Offshore Fisherman’s Association, and a supporter of the Florida Sheriff’s Boy’s Ranch.

Survivors include his daughter, Mary Fredell and her husband Howard, of Wabasso; grandson, Steve Fredell and his wife Amy, of Oviedo; great grandsons, Jonah Fredell and Jared Fredell; brother-in law, John M. “Mickey” Russell, of Wabasso; nephews, Steve Massey, of Wabasso, Robert Russell, of Vero Beach, and Tim Russell, of Ft. Pierce; and niece Peggy Hill, of Denver, Colo.

Massey was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Katherine.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. on Dec. 15, at The River House, 305 Acacia Road, Vero Beach.

Arrangements are under the direction of Strunk Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach.
