INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A Vero Beach driver has been charged with careless driving after hitting a bicyclist at 79th Avenue near 129th Street, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Ashley Mackowski, of Vero Beach, was driving her 2001 Hyundai westbound on 79th Ave. and made a left onto 129th St. when she truck Spencer Hart, of Vero Beach, on a bicycle, according to authorities.
Hart was traveling northbound on 129th St. on the right side of the roadway, according to FHP. Mackowski made an improper left turn cutting the corner. Her vehicle traveled into the path of Hart. The front left side of the vehicle struck the front tire of the bicycle. Hart fell off the bicycle and came to rest on the grassy shoulder.
Hart was airlifted to Arnold Palmer Medical Center in Orlando, according to authorities. Mackowski was wearing a seatbelt and sustained no injuries. Her car sustained $50 in damages.
Hart’s injuries have been reported as non-life threatening.79th
