Exchange Club of Sebastian funds first grant

SEBASTIAN — The Education Foundation of Indian River County is pleased to announce that the Sebastian River High School is the first beneficiary of the “Find it! Fund it! Indian River” grant portal.

Thanks to the generosity of the Exchange Club of Sebastian, a gift of $1,000 will provide guitars for students who participate in an after school guitar club.

The Exchange Club of Sebastian selected the grant from the foundation’s latest initiative, “Find it! Fund it! Indian River.” The crowd funding platform allows teachers in public and private schools to post grants through an interactive online portal.

As a result, business and community donors have the opportunity to give directly in supporting classrooms across Indian River County.

“This grant will purchase ten guitars ($100 each) to be used in the recruitment of new members to the guitar club. The club will formally serve as a safe place for students to learn how to play guitar, using traditional American, folk, and bluegrass songs.

The guitars will stay at SRHS at all times and be used during club meetings. As students get more involved, our hope is that they will eventually be able to purchase their own guitars, allowing us to facilitate more members with the grant funded guitars,” said Sebastian River High School teachers Mr. Brian McMahon and Mr. Thomas Maul when explaining how the funds will be used.
