VERO BEACH — Impact 100 women, with the continued sponsorship of Wilmington Trust, will host their annual membership Kick-Off Breakfast at the Oak Harbor Club on Thursday, Nov. 14.
Once again, prospective members are invited to attend and join this vibrant, productive all women’s group responsible for donating $1.63 million to Indian River County nonprofits over the past five years.
If the past is any indicator, the occasion will be a sold out, standing room only event. The featured guest speaker will be Valerie Pringle, one of Canada’s most popular television hosts, who is a part-time resident of Vero Beach.
Ms. Pringle began her career when she was only 19. Since then, she helped launch the highly successful CBC TV news and current affairs program, Midday. Following that assignment, she hosted CTV’s Canada AM. In 2006, she was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada for her contributions to the communications field and philanthropy.
She will describe how she began her career in journalism on radio and television while balancing a busy home life with three children. She will describe the arc that led her from broadcasting to the non-for-profit world where she now volunteers as a board member and fundraiser, and who her heroes and inspirations have been.
She will talk about making transitions and figuring out when to leave and what is worth spending your time on. She now works very hard as an advocate fighting for improved treatment and access to care for the mentally ill and against stigma, which prevents two-thirds of people with mental illness and 90% of people with addictions from seeking help.
Registration begins at 8:15 a.m., followed by breakfast. Valerie’s presentation will begin at 9 a.m.
Tickets are $35 per person.
The event is open to Impact 100 members and prospective members.
