INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Colonel Martin Zickert, President of the Veterans Council of Indian River County, has announced that plans are complete for two impressive Veterans Day observances.
The Veterans Memorial Island Sanctuary event will be on Monday, Nov. 11, with a starting time of 9 a.m. and at 11 a.m. at Riverview Park in Sebastian.
The guest speaker for the Vero Beach event will be retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Scott Carson. Of particular note is that the stage will be filled with Veterans from all military actions starting with WWII to the Iraq/Afghanistan War on Terrorism.
As usual, we are honored to have the various color guards of the local Veterans organizations as well as the City of Vero Beach Police, IRC Sheriff, and IRC Fire Department.
Bagpiper Michael Hyde, U.S. Merchant Marine Veteran, will also be included in the ceremony.
Proclamations designating Nov. 11, 2013 as Veterans Day in Indian River County have been issued by the County Board of Commissioners and the City Council of Vero Beach.
The Vero Beach High School Band will perform at the ceremony. Local scouts will be on hand distributing water and programs.
In view of the increasing attendance at patriotic observances on Memorial Island, it is recommended that you bring your own folding chairs and come by 8:30 a.m.
The ceremonies will start promptly at 9 a.m. The public is invited.
Handicapped transportation will be provided to the ceremony. Although parking may be crowded, buses will be available to help with the seniors.
The council is providing golf cart transportation, so please drop off seniors at the bridge entrance to the island.
Questions should be directed to Colonel Zickert at (772) 388-4477.
