SEBASTIAN — Vice Mayor Don Wright has requested that no recount be conducted on his behalf after falling short on retaining his Sebastian City Council seat by 19 votes.
Former councilman Richard Gillmor won the third seat on the dais, joining Mayor Bob McPartlan and Councilwoman Andrea Coy.
Sebastian City Clerk Sally Maio, who served as the city’s chair of the canvassing board, announced Wednesday morning that Wright filed in writing that he did not want to pursue a recount.
Under Florida Statutes, Wright is entitled to a recount unless he requests otherwise in writing.
“I am comfortable with the posted results of the election and am not seeking a recount,” Wright wrote to Maio. “The City will be
well served by the newly elected council members and existing members of council. Actually, I am
pleased to be able to take some time off from my activities on council and other related responsibilities.”
Wright said he still wants to be kept informed as to the city’s business and requested he still receive council agendas and other such items available by email to the general public.
The Sebastian Canvassing Board is expected to certify the election results at the Supervisor of Elections Office on Thursday at approximately 9 am.
The winners of the three council seats will be sworn in at the start of the next Sebastian City Council meeting, which is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Nov. 13.
