Dr. Willis Alston Brown III , 82, Vero Beach

Dr. Willis Alston Brown III , 82, died Oct. 25, 2013, at the Skilled Care Center of Indian River Estates, Vero Beach.

He was born in Sarasota, raised in Tampa and attended Emory University and University of Miami School of Medicine (Class 1956).

He completed his medical internship at Duval Medical Center in Jacksonville and a pediatric residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami.

He served as a captain in the United States Air Force.

The rest of his medical career was spent in Titusville, where he established Jess Parrish Hospital’s first pediatric ward and later was board certified in family practice.

He was a Paul Harris Fellow and past president of the Titusville Rotary Club.

He with his wife Shirley moved to Indian River Estates in Vero Beach in 2007.

He was a tenor in the First United Methodist Church Choir, the Treasure Coast Chorale and also sang with various groups at Indian River Estates.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Shirley; sons David and Michael, of Titusville; daughter Michele Mason, of Stuttgart, Germany; brother Thomas K. Brown, of Denton, Texas; and three grandchildren.

Visitation is at 10 a.m. on Oct. 30, at North Brevard Funeral Home in Titusville, followed by a graveside service at 11 a.m. at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Titusville.
