VERO BEACH — China is the undisputed largest holder of U.S. foreign debt in the world, and decisions made in Washington over the next two weeks could have a dramatic effect on domestic and international markets.
The role of China and its effect on the lives of every American has a central place in discussions of U.S. foreign policy. CHINA Town Hall: Local Connections, National Reflections is a nationwide event being conducted in more than 60 cities on Monday, Oct. 28.
The event will provide a unique opportunity for the community to learn about the importance of China’s relationship with the United States, and will include community-generated questions answered by leading China specialists.
This event will take place in the Waxlax Center for the Performing Arts located on Saint Edward’s campus from 7-9:30 p.m. There is no charge for admission.
CHINA Town Hall will feature Madeleine K. Albright, former U.S. Secretary of State. Dr. Albright will discuss via live webcast current issues in Sino-American relations. She will then respond to questions from audience members throughout the country in a conversation moderated by Stephen A. Orlins, president of the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations.
Following the webcast, Erin Ennis, Vice President of the U.S.-China Business Council, will present, on-site, “The Five Things You Need to Know about US-China Trade.”
Following her presentation, Ms. Ennis will be available to answer questions about the long-term effects of a government shutdown and how the debt crisis affects individual Americans.
Prior to joining the Council, Ms. Ennis worked at Kissinger McLarty Associates, an international consulting firm headed by former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and former White House Chief of Staff Thomas “Mack” McLarty. At Kissinger McLarty, Ms. Ennis was responsible for implementing strategies for international business clients on proprietary trade matters, primarily in Vietnam and Japan.
