VERO BEACH — LaKisha Erwin has joined the staff of Indian River Habitat for Humanity as Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative (NRI) Manager.
She was accepted into the Habitat program in 2001 and became a Habitat homeowner the following year. She married Famous Erwin in 2008 and, as a blended family, they have two daughters, LaKia Simone and Gabrielle Erwin, both 15.
A graduate of VBHS, Erwin holds an Associate’s Degree in Business, Bachelor’s Degrees in Biblical Studies and Business and Organizational Management and, with assistance from Habitat’s Scholarship Program, expects to complete her Masters in Counseling in 2014. Daughter LaKia is also in Habitat’s Scholarship Program.
Prior to joining the Habitat staff, Erwin gained work experience in domestic violence, HIV/STD counseling, and teens and relationship counseling. She continues to facilitate educational classes for domestic violence and poverty enrichment.
For the last few years, Erwin served as Assistant Executive Director and Community Services Director at the Economic Opportunities Council.
She also founded the REACH educational assistance program, an experience which, Erwin says, “will allow me to advocate for the Gifford community. I am looking forward to engaging Gifford and surrounding communities as a (Habitat) homeowner and employee.
“I’m doing what I love, and looking forward to building relationships, homes, houses, families, friends and futures.”
