Nearly 3,000 absentee ballots mailed

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — On Oct. 1, the Indian River County Supervisor of Elections office mailed 2,702 absentee ballots for the Nov. 5 Municipal Elections for the cities of Sebastian and Vero Beach, and new requests will be processed daily.

Florida Statute requires the Supervisor of Elections to mail domestic absentee ballots to each qualified voter who has requested a ballot between the 35th and 28th day prior to an election. A total of 1,552 ballots were mailed to voters in Sebastian, and 1,150 were mailed to voters in Vero Beach.

Absentee ballots for absent military and overseas voters who have requests on file were mailed beginning Sept. 20. State law requires them to be mailed at least 45 days before an election.

Voters who wish to request an absentee ballot should call the Elections Office at (772) 226-3440 or complete an Absentee Ballot Request Form online or in person at the Supervisor of Elections office.

The last day for voters to request an absentee ballot to be mailed to them for the Nov. 5 Municipal Elections is Oct. 30. In order to be counted, absentee ballots must be returned to the Supervisor of Elections office no later than 7 p.m. on Election Day.

Absentee ballots may not be turned in at the polls.

Voted, returned absentee ballot totals will be posted daily on the website at www.VoteIndianRiver.com.

Voters who wish to vote on Election Day must vote at their assigned polling location as indicated on their voter information card. Voters may verify their voter record and polling location information by calling the Elections Office or by clicking “Am I Registered?” on the Elections Office website.
