Indian River County Sheriff’s employee arrested for exposing self at park

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A civilian corrections assistant with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office has been arrested for exposing himself in the restroom at Treasure Shores Park, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Ramon Gottfreid, 54, resigned from his position in the Sheriff’s Office within hours of being arrested Wednesday for exposing himself, according to authorities.

A detective observed Gottfreid in the men’s restroom at Treasure Shores Park, 11300 A1A, exposing his genitals while seeking sex, according to the Sheriff’s office.

The detective was in a stall in the restroom and noted there were several holes that had been made in the stall dividers. The detective saw Gottfreid masturbating in the stall before he left and returned to the urinal where he masturbated in front of a peephole between the urinal and the stall occupied by the detective.

Investigators noted this is a common practice for those participating in, “cruising,” a term for seeking sexual activity from others in the same restroom, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Gottfreid then exited the restroom a second time and returned a few minutes later. He then stood in front of the same peephole, knowing that the stall was occupied.

He did not, however, expose himself for a third time. When the detective identified himself, Gottfreid admitted to exposing his sexual organs. The restroom is tagged with graffiti and peepholes indicative of an area common for “cruising,” according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Gottfreid faces a charge of exposure of sexual organs. He posted the $500 bond and was released.

Gottfreid was hired as a civilian corrections assistant Jan. 5, 2007. He resigned his position with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office last night while in the booking area by means of a hand-written note that he gave to a jail administrator.

His court date is scheduled for Nov. 5.
