Vero Beach Air Show Oct. 5-6

VERO BEACH — It’s been a long time since Vero Beach has hosted an air show, but the wait is finally over. On Oct. 5 and 6, the sky over Vero Beach Airport will be alive with high flying aerobatics, daredevil stunt pilots, pyrotechnics, and more.

The stunning lineup of performers includes the world famous GEICO Skytypers Airshow Team with their flight squadron of six vintage SNJ-2 WWII aircraft. GEICO Skytypers will write giant billboards, as large as the Empire State Building, in the sky that can be seen for 15 miles and finish with a low ship, precision, aerial demonstration in front of the crowd.

Also lined up for 2013 is team Tin Stixx, comprised of internationally acclaimed stunt pilots Patty Wagstaff and Skip Stewart, and jet truck driver Chris Darnell. Their performance, which is a mix of intense aerobatics, head on sequences, and tight passes surrounded by smoke and balls of fire, is sure to delight Treasure Coast fans.

Greg Koontz and the Alabama boys will perform loops, vertical rolls, snaps, tumbles, and inverted passes along with their famous low flying ribbon cutting.

Additional performers include Matt Younkin doing intricate aerobatics in his striking Red & Black Twin Beech, Quicksilver, Scott “Scooter” Yoak piloting his sleek P-51 Mustang, Chris Darnell in a solo performance with the Flash Fire Jet Truck, and more.

Attendees will be entertained on the ground with various static aircraft displays, a vintage/hot rod car show, and exhibitor booths. There’s even a Kid’s Zone for children.

Of course, an air show isn’t complete without plenty of concessions offering a full range of affordable food, beverages, and merchandise for all to enjoy.

The Vero Beach, Indian River, and Treasure Coast Exchange Club Chapters, along with the Veterans Council of IRC, have collaborated for the past two years to revive the air show and bring it back to Vero Beach.

Proceeds will benefit the Exchange Club’s fight in the prevention of child abuse and provide assistance to our local veterans.
