Homeless person strikes man with machete at Sebastian Yacht Club

SEBASTIAN — A homeless man has been arrested after authorities say he used a machete to strike another man at the Sebastian Yacht Club following an argument Monday evening.

According to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, 58-year-old Billy Alexander got into a verbal argument with the unidentified victim, which escalated into a shoving match between the two men. The victim pushed Alexander into the water behind the Sebastian Yacht Club, which ended the initial altercation.

About 25 minutes after the incident, the victim was exiting the yacht club bathroom when he felt an unknown item strike his leg, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

A witness told investigators he heard the victim screaming for help. He saw the victim’s wound and made a tourniquet in an attempt to slow the bleeding, according to authorities.

The victim was transported to the Sebastian River Medical Center.

Authorities apprehended Alexander and found a 16-inch machete, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The victim received several stitches to his leg, according to authorities.
