VERO BEACH — Indian River Habitat for Humanity’s Deconstruction Program has become a vital part of Habitat’s mission by raising funds through the Habitat ReStore. The success of this program can be attributed to the businesses that participate in the program: local builders, realtors, and remodelers.
When a home or business is deconstructed, whether in part or totally, Habitat is contacted, assesses the available materials, and either does the deconstruction with staff and volunteers or accepts the delivered materials.
These materials can include wood flooring, bathroom fixtures, light fixtures, molding, cabinetry, sinks, counter tops, shelving, tile, and more. In the Habitat warehouse, volunteers and staff prepare the material to be displayed for sale.
Habitat is greatly appreciative of the many businesses that have partnered with the organization in this program. Among them are: Alex MacWilliam Real Estate, Barth Construction, Billero & Billero Properties, Croom Construction, Dale Sorensen Realty, Helmet House, Hill Group, John’s Island Real Estate, Kruger Construction, Norris & Company, Parent Construction, Proctor Construction, RCL Development, Inc., Reilly Construction, Roy Whistle Construction, and others.
Numerous other companies have delivered smaller loads of such items to the Home Center ReStore, outside of the formal Deconstruction Program.
Habitat greatly values all of its deconstruction donors, large and small. Businesses that participate in this program are not only furthering Habitat’s mission to provide homes for families in need, but are also supporting the environment by keeping tons of material out of our landfills, according to ReStore Manager Dave Sneed,
