INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Indian River County Supervisor of Elections office will be the recipient of Federal Election Activities Funds in the 2013-2014 fiscal year.
In order to receive the funds, the Legislature requires that the Board of County Commissioners certify that the county will match the state funds of $15,680.49 with a 15% county match in the amount of $2,352.07. The Board of County Commissioners unanimously agreed to provide the funds at their Aug. 20 County Commission meeting.
Federal Election Activities Funds are appropriated by the Legislature to be distributed to county supervisor of elections in order to assist with federal election activities. The funds are to be used for voter education, poll worker training, implementing and maintaining the provisions of the Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment (MOVE) Act, and the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA.)
In addition, the funds may be used for standardizing election results reporting and any software or hardware technology designed to enhance or facilitate the delivery of absentee ballots, the casting and counting of votes, voting system audits or recount processes, and the certification of accurate and complete official election results.
The Legislature requires that the supervisors of elections provide the Department of State with a detailed description of the federal election activity programs to be implemented.
“Receiving funds from the Federal Election Activities grant greatly assists our staff in providing valuable voter education materials, such as sample ballots and advertising, during federal elections,” explained Leslie Swan, Supervisor of Elections.
