SEBASTIAN — The names on the Sebastian City Council this November should be familiar to most voters in the city. All three incumbents, a former councilman and a former candidate have filed to run in the municipal election.
Mayor Bob McPartlan, Vice Mayor Don Wright and Councilwoman Andrea Coy are seeking another 2-year term at the Sebastian Council dais. Former mayor and councilman Richard Gillmor is seeking another chance to represent the citizens. And Sebastian businessman and former council candidate Damien Gilliams has qualified to run.
Wright was first elected in 2009 and is finishing his second term. McPartlan was elected in 2011 and finishing his first term. Coy was first elected in 2005 and is closing out her fourth term.
The candidates will get their first chance to address the public during the Taxpayers Association of Indian River County’s monthly meeting on Sept. 11, which will be held at the Capt. Butcher’s on Indian River Drive at 11:45 a.m. The cost for the lunch is $18.
The top three vote-getters will be sworn in at the following City Council meeting, which will be Nov. 13, where a mayor and a vice mayor will be selected.
Council members earn $300 per month and the mayor earns $450 monthly. They each receive $300 extra to cover travel and expenses for meetings and city business they conduct within 75 miles of the city.
