Suspect identified in birthday shooting

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A suspect has been identified in the shooting that happened at a birthday party last week off Oslo Road, according to authorities.

Authorities have named Jarvis Demetrius Gaskin, 23, as the suspected shooter.

Investigators with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office have active arrest warrants for Gaskin for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, three counts of attempted second degree murder, discharging a firearm causing great bodily harm, and shooting a deadly missile.

Witnesses identified Gaskin as the subject who shot at three teens while at a 17-year-old’s birthday party in the 900 block of 34th Avenue SW last Saturday night, Aug. 24, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Witnesses told investigators Gaskin had been dancing with a gun in his hand. When all guests were asked to leave, Gaskin became angry and shot into the house, striking three teens, including the one celebrating his 17th birthday.

Two of the victims, ages 18 and 19, suffered superficial wounds and were treated and released from Lawnwood Regional Medical Center, according to authorities.

The third victim, the 17-year-old, was initially in serious condition after surgery last Sunday but is now listed as stable and is communicating with detectives.

Gaskin is a black male, 23 years old, 5’ 9”, 185 lbs, brown eyes, black hair and has a last known address in the 2100 block of N. 43rd Street in Fort Pierce. He is considered armed and dangerous.
