VERO BEACH — Sunshine Physical Therapy Clinic has received a $50,000 donation from Steve and Rose Sadlek of Vero Beach to be used for restarting Sunshine’s children’s rehabilitation program, Sunshine Kids. The children’s program was the founder’s original concept for starting the Sunshine Center back in 1953.
Celebrating Sunshine’s 60th anniversary this year is a fitting tribute to the founders who recognized the needs of the children in our community and established the nonprofit healthcare clinic. The legacy of healthcare that was started to treat handicapped children continues with this generous donation from the Sadleks.
The needs of the community have shifted over the last 60 years. Polio was eradicated. In 1964, special needs children, by law, were treated primarily under the public school system.
Now the challenge is to care for an increasing number of children with neurodevelopmental disorders like autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, developmental delays, neuromuscular conditions like cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy, and orthopedic conditions like scoliosis.
With the closing of Health South’s outpatient clinic last fall, Indian River County had only one children’s physical therapy clinic. Recognizing the need in the community for rehabilitative physical therapy services for children due to illness, injury or congenital causes, Sunshine opened Sunshine Kids in June.
Sunshine Physical Therapy Clinic and Sunshine Kids are a nonprofit out-patient clinic dedicated to providing personalized care to improve function and health through physical, occupational, and massage therapies, personal fitness programs, and community education.
Our goal is to enhance the quality of life in Indian River County. We offer professional therapeutic services delivered by a caring, well-qualified team of professionals.
