Shots fired into Vero Beach Highlands home Sunday night

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Around five shots were fired into a home in the 2100 block of 6th Ave. SW in the Vero Highlands around 11 p.m., according to the Indian River Sheriff’s Office.

No injuries were reported and this incident is not connected to the shooting during the birthday party Saturday night, according to Lt. Tony Consalo.

During the incident, a suspect knocked on the door asking for someone who did not live at the residence, according to authorities. The home owner did not open the door, but instead looked through the peephole.

Later, the homeowner went outside to check his vehicle to see if it had been burglarized, according to the Sheriff’s Office. At that time three suspects chased the homeowner inside. Once the victim made it back inside around five shots were fired into the home.

A K-9 unit was on scene and tracked the suspects to a parking lot then lost the trail.

Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to contact Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-800-273-8477 or www.tcwatch.org.
