VERO BEACH — We have two highly qualified instructors. Both of them have a choice of classes from which you can select.
Connie Ellis, HSVB&IRC’s Senior Dog Trainer and Behavior Counselor, teaches several different classes on a regular schedule at the shelter. Connie’s classes focus on motivational methods that are NOT food-reliant.
Her most popular class is a group session called “Puppy and Dog Training.” It is suited for all breeds and all age dogs from 8 weeks and up. With six weekly one hour sessions, you learn how to train your dog.
For your convenience, classes are scheduled frequently, and new sessions begin every 8 weeks. (In fact, registration for upcoming classes is open now.) All of the $40 tuition benefits the animals at the shelter.
Connie’s “Continuing Dog Training” class offers the next level of training, establishing an order of practice for the owner/dog team. Her popular “Puppy Parties” (for puppies from age 8 to16 weeks) are held the 3rd Monday of each month at the shelter.
For additional information or to register for a class, please contact Connie at (772) 388-3331, ext. 19, or email her at [email protected].
Cissy Sumner serves as HSVB&IRC’s Consulting Dog Trainer & Behavior Counselor, offering classes both at our shelter building as well as other locations throughout the community. Her classes change frequently as she constantly develops new material to share with dogs and dog-loving families.
Currently on Monday nights, Cissy offers “Canine Life and Social Skills,” a fun program which helps your dog learn true life skills and earn a B.A., an M.A., or a PhD. This five week class is $75.
You can teach your dog to focus on you in the face of distractions using the skills you’ll learn at “Attention Please,” a five week class at the shelter on Tuesday mornings. Again, tuition is $75.
Every Tuesday night, Cissy teaches an “Introduction to Agility” class on premises. The class runs four weeks and teaches use of agility equipment and training concepts. A $60 tuition is required.
For more details, please call her directly at (772) 978-7863.
Well-trained dogs make their owners happy; happy owners continue to provide loving homes for their dogs. Training is important so we can keep dogs at home (and out of the shelter.)
