Elmer P. Shumaker, 95, died July 23, 2013, in Vero Beach.
He was born in Donora, Pa., and lived in Vero Beach for 10 years, coming from Kiawah Island, S.C.
He retired in 1983 as vice president of western operations for Chevron USA in San Francisco.
He joined Chevron Corp. in 1970 as vice president of marketing for Chevron Oil Europe, before returning to the United States in 1976.
From 1948 to 1970 he worked for Caltex Oil Co.
Previously, he spent seven years at ESSO (Exxon Mobil) in New Jersey.
After college he spent a year working at the Mellon Institute of Industrial Research in Pittsburgh.
He received a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.
He was a member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Litchfield, Conn., and Trinity Episcopal Church, Vero Beach.
He was a founder of the New Canaan Field Club in Connecticut and member of the Union League Club in New York City.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Ann Shumaker; daughters, Nancy Post, of Litchfield and Susan Fearey, of Goshen, Conn.; sons, Stephen Shumaker, of Montrose, Colo., and Peter Shumaker, of Lafayette, Calif.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Louise Martin.
