Donald D. Weidhuner, 86, died July 22, 2013, at Indian River Medical Center, Vero Beach.
He was born in Greenview, Ill., and lived in Vero Beach for 14 years, coming from Edinburg, Va.
He earned his Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois and his master of science degree from George Washington University.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Before retirement, he worked for the Department of Defense, Washington, D.C., as chief of engineering research and development for the Army for 30 years. He was senior vice president of AVCO in Lycoming, Stratford, Conn., for two years before his 15 years with Independent Engineering Consultant, Edinburg, Va.
Survivors include his daughter, Johanna Will; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren, all of Wake Forest, N.C.
Services were conducted in North Carolina.
