Bernard William McGowan died July 21, 2013, in Vero Beach.
He was a resident of Vero Beach, coming from Southborough, Mass.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and served in both the Pacific and European theaters.
He served an additional 32 years in the Army Reserve, retiring as a lieutenant colonel in 1977.
He retired in 1980 from the New England Telephone Co. after 34 years.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Dorothy; daughters, Judith and Linda; sons, Leo, Bernie Jr. and Edward; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Leo, Frank, Gerry, Albert, Charles, Paul, George, and Timothy.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 5 p.m. July 25 at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church in Vero Beach.
