Fellsmere man threatens to chop girlfriend’s head off with sword

FELLSMERE — A Fellsmere man has been arrested on several charges after he allegedly threatened to cut his captive girlfriend’s head off.

Thursday, the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office responded to North Elm Street in Fellsmere after being dispatched for a physical disturbance.

Upon arriving on the scene, authorities were flagged down by a person yelling, “He has my mom inside!”

Juan Deleon, 48, faces charges for aggravated assault, domestic violence, false imprisonment, and battery, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Witnesses said Deleon and his girlfriend of three months were arguing over her alleged infidelity, according to authorities. The argument escalated when Deleon dragged the victim by her hair to their room and locked her in.

The Sheriff’s Office said Deleon threatened the victim as he placed the point of the sword to her neck and stomach. Deleon then told her he would kill her and chop her head off. A small cut was observed on the side of her jaw.

A witness came to pick up the victim and tried to get her out of the room, according to authorities. The witness brought a crowbar for protection, which with Deleon later assaulted the victim after gaining possession of it.

After the attempt to free the victim was unsuccessful, the witness ran out of the residence and screamed to another person to call the police.

Deleon was arrested and transported to the Indian River County Jail, where he is being held on $105,000 bond.
