Gifford seventh grader arrested for burglary

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A Gifford Middle School seventh grader has been arrested for allegedly burglarizing an apartment in Indian River County, according to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office.

The burglary occurred Monday in the 1100 block of 11th Street SW, according to authorities.

The victim’s neighbor was standing outside when he heard a loud bang, according to the Sheriff’s Office. He observed four, what he believed to be juvenile males, standing on the victim’s rear porch. When he yelled at the suspects, they all fled the area.

The suspect, after being interviewed at the Criminal Investigations Unit, told authorities that he used a brick paver to smash the rear sliding glass door to the residence. Once he gained entry they searched for “valuable items” but did not locate any. The suspect said that no items were stolen.

The minor faces charges of burglary.
