Darlene L. Gleaves, 77, died June 29, 2013, at Indian River Medical Center, Vero Beach.
She was born in Clinton County, Mo., and lived in Vero Beach for many years.
She received her bachelor’s degree from Northwest Missouri State and master’s from Ohio University.
Before retirement, she worked as a substitute teacher with students with special needs, and taught at the ARC Preschool in Vero Beach.
She also taught elementary school in Jackson, Ohio.
She was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Vero Beach.
She was a volunteer with the Guardian ad Litem program.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years, James C. Gleaves of Vero Beach; sons, Paul Allen Gleaves of Waldorf, Md., and Mark Coleman Gleaves of Ashburn, Va.; daughters, Marie Jean Stern of Pittsburgh and Lois Ann Gerow of Hainesville, Ill.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
