Central Beach resident arrested for assault with a machete on island

VERO BEACH — Vero Beach police have arrested a Vero Beach resident for allegedly committing assault with a machete on the island.

Ryan Denniston, 29, of Vero Beach, faces charges of aggravated assault.

Monday night, police responded to the 800 block of Flamevine Lane after a call about a disturbance, according to police.

When authorities arrived at the scene, the victim told them that Denniston had a machete in his hand and was sitting on the front porch.

Denniston was detained as soon as police made their way to the residence, according to the affidavit. The machete was found in the bushes next to a seat on the front porch.

The victim said Denniston,from his residence, made a rude comment toward the victim’s girlfriend, according to police. After the comment was made, the victim approached the porch and asked for an apology for his girlfriend. The victim advised he was not leaving until he got an apology.

Denniston went back inside his apartment, according to authorities, and returned with a machete and pointed it straight at the victim’s face approximately a foot away at eye level. Denniston then returned to his seat with his machete at his side.

As the victim left, he told Denniston that the police would be called, according to police, to which Denniston replied, “Good because I’ve got a gun too.”

Denniston is being held on $5,000 bond.
