FORT LAUDERDALE – Members from the Vero Beach Police Department took six gold medals and two silver during the 2013 Florida Police & Fire Games.
The Florida Police & Fire Games were conducted June 16 through June 21 in Fort Lauderdale.
The purpose of the Florida Police & Fire Games is to build stronger bonds among Florida law enforcement officers, fire & military personnel via a sports program that simultaneously enhances positive attitudes towards physical fitness.
Several Vero Beach Police officers participated in the following divisions:
Lt. Matthew Monaco:
- Gold medal – Triathlon – 1/4 mile swim – 14 mile cycling event – three mile run
- Gold medal – 9.11K Patriot run
Lt. Matt Harrelson:
- Gold medal – 400 meter run
- Silver medal – 800 meter run
- Gold medal – 1600 meter run
- Silver medal – 9.11K Patriot run
- Gold medal – Relay 400 meter x 4
- Gold medal – Sprint Medley relay – 100 meter run, 100 meter run, 200 meter run, 400 meter run
