Percy Lee Ealy Sr., 72, Vero Beach

Percy Lee Ealy Sr., 72, died June 14, 2013, at Indian River Medical Center, Vero Beach.

He was born in Vero Beach and was a lifetime resident.

Before retirement, he was a sergeant at Indian River Correctional Institution in Vero Beach.

He attended the Wabasso Church of God.

He was educated in the public schools of Indian River County.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Ealy, of Vero Beach; sons, Percy Lee Ealy Jr., of West Palm Beach, Ricky Lee Ealy, of Vero Beach and Virgil Lee Ealy, of Tampa; daughters, Glenda Mincey, of Fayetteville, N.C., Antrell Starling, of Charlotte, N.C., Vanessa Ealy, of Olympia, Wash., and Linda Dozier, of Orlando; brothers, Teddy Miles, Marvin Miles and Archie Davis, all of Gifford; sisters, Johnnie Mae Miles Jackson, Alberta Miles Shivers and Corine Miles Smith, all of Gifford, and Jerenda Medler, of Sebastian; stepgrandmother, Mother Catherine Ealy, of Gifford; 17 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was a surrogate father to Patricia Myrick Evans, of Fort Pierce and Margaret Myrick Ingram, of Vero Beach.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Jessie Lee Ealy Jr., Aaron Miles, Jimmy Miles and Daniel Miles; sisters, Betty Jean Lane, Julia Mae Lewis, Dora, Willie Lee Miles Rogers and Diane Miles.

There will be no visitation.

A home-going celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. June 22 at the Wabasso Church of God with Bishop John A. Thorne officiating.
