Donald “Stoney” R. Stonesifer, 98, Sebastian

Donald “Stoney” R. Stonesifer, 98, died June 17, 2013, in Sebastian.

He was born in Hanover, Pa., and lived in Sebastian for 27 years.

He was an Army chaplain in World War II during the Battle of the Bulge.

He received the rank of lieutenant colonel.

He was captured and was a prisoner of war in Germany.

He was a retired Army chaplain for 32 years in Hagerstown, Md., Smithsburg, Md., Boonsboro, Md., Staunton, Va., and Norge, Va.

He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Vero Beach.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Dorelle Stonesifer; sons, Craig A. Stonesifer, of Dover, Del., Donald R. Stonesifer Jr., of Churchville, Va., and Wayne L. Stonesifer, of Harbinger, N.C.; brothers, Richard Stonesifer, of Hanover, Pa., and John Stonesifer, of Pearland, Texas; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1850 Sixth Ave., Vero Beach, FL 32960.

Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. July 10 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, with the Revs. Andrew C. “Jack” Diehl and Shelly A. Satran officiating.
