VERO BEACH — The Senior Resource Association (SRA) recently received a $10,000 grant for its Emergency Meals on Wheels Program from the Grand Harbor Community Outreach Program.
The Emergency Meals on Wheels Program assists Indian River County seniors who are experiencing a “crisis situation” and need short-term home delivered meals. The program targets isolated, homebound seniors who have been recently discharged from a health care facility.
“This program facilitates the healing process for recovering patients by providing a nutritious meal and a daily wellness visit by a volunteer. We are deeply grateful to Grand Harbor Community Outreach Program for this grant, which will provide 1,404 meals for seniors experiencing a ‘crisis situation’ over the next year,” said Ginna O’Connor, SRA’s Vice President of Programs.
The Emergency Meals on Wheels Program is proven to prevent hospital readmissions and defer nursing home placement, thereby enabling recipients to remain living in their homes independently.
